Ready For The Weekend

Hi again!

Proper psyched for the weekend I am!!! The work (Praise The Lord!) will be displayed in a different way from how I exhibited it last year. I tested it out this past Sunday with help from my Dad (thanks Dad!) and the whole set up looks awesome. I don't want to give anything away, for a first glimpse of it, I guess you'll just have to attend the festival on Saturday and/or Sunday!! Find below a list of all the artists and where they will be exhibiting:

I'm going to be selling some mini zines to accompany the work which I'll be selling for a cheap £1 so pick one up as I don't know whether I'll be selling these again.

Busy busy times. Bring on the weekend - family, friends and if you're interested come check these guys out at The Old Angel in Nottingham, they're playing this Saturday night so I'll be heading to it after I've finished for the day. They are the one and only Komatyzed! (be warned the video may include naughty words!)

One month to go....

Hi everyone

The Lady Bay Arts Festival is fast approaching, just one month to go. There's now a Facebook page for it now, so go 'like' it and keep up to date with all the latest happenings and find out info about the event:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lady-Bay-Arts/119568401433367

Below is the leaflet for the event which maps out roughly which houses will be open and showing the artist's work (I'm in house 10!). More specific information will be given if you attend....which you should do because it will be awesome!! Click for larger views.

Also, Lady Bay Arts Festival is being helped by Open Studios Notts, supported by by Nottinghamshire County Council Arts Development Service (click below to make larger).

On their website they have information about every artist taking part in the Lady Bay Arts Festival so check it out (even I'm mentioned!!!)

Finally, check out the Open Studios Notts Facebook page:

In other news, I'm back at uni today for my last term in the 2nd year. This past year has flown by. Still plenty of arty things to get done though, the next few months are going to be choc-a-block....but I wouldn't have it any other way :)

As a final thing to end this post, go check out the 'Music' section. It's not much but seeing as I'm heading to a gig on Saturday to see a superb band, I've decided to post a video by them. Enjoy!

Welcome to the new look...

Hi everyone and welcome to the new and improved blog for....

As you may have noticed if you've seen my blog before, I've revamped the design to make it more....well, me. I've added a lot more work up to so I'm all up to date with that now. I probably still have a few little tweeks to make here and there such as uploading my artist statement and think of something interesting to do with the 'Music' section rather than just list music I listen to on a regular basis! So I'm almost there!

Have a snoop around and let me know what you think of the new layout and my work.

Lady Bay Arts Festival 2012

Hey everyone!

So, last night I went to a meeting regarding the Lady Bay Arts Festival where I got to meet a talk to some of the other artists who will be involved and some of the homes who will be hosting.

Basically, the arts festival has 45 artists taking part. Art pieces are shown in a number of homes, halls and pubs around the Lady Bay area in West Bridgford (right on my doorstep which is convenient!). It's a 2 day event over the weekend of the 19th and 20th May 2012. As it stands for now, the opening times will be 12pm - 6pm on both days. I will be with my piece on both days giving people the chance to speak to me about it if they would like to. I will give more information regarding where I will be displaying more towards the time, but I will say that I am going to displaying along with craft potter Andy Mason from Derby. He plans on taking his kiln with him and getting people to participate in making pottery, which will be great for visitors to do. If I find the chance, I may have to have a go myself! For more information on Andy, visit http://www.cpaceramics.co.uk/gallery_detail.php?member_id=322.

I also met a fellow fine artist called David Booth, also based in Derby, who will displaying a sculpture piece, which I'm sure will be amazing if his previous work is anything to go by! Check it out at http://www.davidbooth.uk.com/

I'm really looking forward to this event and I'm hoping that you can come. I may have a couple of other ideas and tricks up my sleeve which I'm going to keep shtum about for now, just to build a little bit of mystery and anticipation!!

Cheers for reading guys.

Review of The International Postcard Show

Hi guys

Sorry it's been a while since last posting on here, you know how life can get busy sometimes.

So on 24th January, me and my wife attended the private viewing of The International Postcard Show 2012. I have to say I felt weirdly nervous, but after entering the gallery and getting a glass of red wine, it was fine!

The layout of all the postcards looked great, all of them displayed on shelves one on top of the other. For almost 300 postcards on display, each one stood out and they weren't bunched up together.

There were some great postcards on display. Particular mentions I want to include are:

Chris Arkham - http://www.chris-askham.co.uk/
Leo Bennett - http://www.leobennettart.blogspot.com/
Grace Cole - http://gracecole.carbonmade.com/

Check them out!

I left my wife guessing as to which 2 postcards were mine. As self indulgent as it might be, I had to know where they were as soon as I walked in to the gallery! It was quite hard to keep a straight face after she came across them and started staring at them!

I still profess it to be quite a strange feeling for my work to be on display in a gallery! I think what I found even more weird was seeing people picking up my postcards to have a look (especially an elderly gentleman having a good look at 'Wish You Were Here' and then having a look at my contact information...really hope he doesn't send some kind of death threat!).

Overall it has been an amazing experience. The show is still on until 11th February so please go and have a gander. Check out the Surface Gallery's blog regarding it: http://surfacegallerynottingham.blogspot.com/

I'm still in the process of putting work on to my blog, as I said life's been busy recently so bare with me.

See you soon.

The International Postcard Show 2012 Official Press Release

Hello people!!

Today I received an email detailing the official press release for The International Postcard Show 2012 being held at The Surface Gallery...which I am a part of!! Please see below for details regarding the show. It would be amazing if you could attend the private view on 24th January, me and my wife will be there between 6pm and 8pm. If you can't then you can still attend up until 11th February. All this is detailed below. Enough waffling from me now though.

The International Postcard Show 2012
Open: 25th January – 11th February
Preview: 24th January 6-8pm

Surface Gallery is delighted to present the first exhibition of 2012 The International Postcard Show. Curated by Surface Gallery, this long-standing annual exhibition features hundreds of original artworks connected solely by their 4” x 6” format. The show brings together works by established practitioners, students, new comers and international artists from as far afield as Europe and USA, with each individual postcard acting as a celebration of the diversity in practice and location of the participating artists.
Following the success of last year’s very first Surface Gallery artwork exchange, all participating artists have once again been given the opportunity to receive an original artwork in exchange for their own following the completion of the show. This unique aspect of the exhibition offers artists the chance to connect worldwide through a random and remote exchange system. These original artworks are also for sale throughout the exhibition, priced at just £15. This is an ideal opportunity to discover up and coming artists and to buy some original work for an affordable price.

Before the days of emails, Facebook, and Twitter people would send postcards that time-travelled all over the world as a way to 'keep in touch'. This year we are introducing an interesting interactive aspect to the International Postcard Show as visitors, inspired by the exhibition, you can create your own personalised postcard at Surface Gallery. Come and write to loved ones, estranged friends, or your neighbours and get reconnected by the satisfying process of writing and sending a simple postcard.

Just realised that I need to start promoting this blog a bit more, I haven't told anyone about it yet!! I think I'll do that after I've posted this!

Soooooooo...last week, I sent 2 pieces in to Surafce Gallery in Nottingham and they will be displayed at The International Postcard Show 2012, which will be running from 25th January - 11th February 2012, with a private viewing on the 24th January. So this means that I will be participating in MY FIRST OFFICIAL EXHIBITION!!!!!! I'm very excited about it if you can't tell! Basically, I will have 2 postcard sized pieces on display, one called 'Wish You Were Here 1943' and 'Abyss' (I will upload images of these soon). They will be on sale for £15 each, so if you fancy popping to Surface Gallery and buying one, you would make my day! To be honest though, I'm just happy that I've got work going on display.
